Fort Smith JuneTeenth, A Celebration of Freedom
June 11, 2009 by Ray Nellum · Leave a Comment
Get out and enjoy the activities and entertainment at the Fort Smith JuneTeenth Celebration at Harry E. Kelley Park. The event are from June 9 to June 14, and right here in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
“Juneteenth” or the “19th of June” is considered the date when slavery ended in America (*although history teaches us otherwise). We strive to educate people of the significance that the African-American race has in the construction and diversity of our great nation, before, during and after the slavery era and the signing of the “Emancipation Proclamation” signed by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863. We celebrate the 4th of July and Cinco De Mayo and to help complete our freedom celebrations, we celebrate “America’s 2nd Independence Day”, Juneteenth, a celebration of Freedom and Unity!
Arkansas is the 16th state to recognize Juneteenth as a State Holiday or Observance thanks to the efforts of the JPCI, Senators Wilkins, Steele, Altes and Lincoln.

Remember Those that Gave Their Lives for Our Freedom. Fort Smith Real Estate
May 25, 2009 by Ray Nellum · 1 Comment
Memorial Day isn’t just another holiday. It’s not another day to get off of work, go to the lake, or the big cook outs. It’s a day of remembrance for all of the Men and Women that made the ultimate sacrifice and gave their lives for our country. Had it not been for those individuals. Where would our great country be? Our Country has always been tested. Even in these very dangerous and trying times, I believe we can, and will prevail!
I would like to thank the Men and Women currently serving our Country. I am very thankful for those that have given their lives for our beliefs, and our freedom. I especially want to thank those families of our Fallen, they are not forgotten!
Enjoy your Memorial Day Holiday, but take time to remember those that have given their lives for our Freedom.
In Remembrance of the Arkansas

Thank A Veteran, Independence Day Revisited!!
July 8, 2008 by Ray Nellum · Leave a Comment
It is so easy to get caught up in all the daily buzz with much to do about nothing. I know, it’s easy to get caught up in so many things that don’t really mean that much.
This Independence Day, I saw so many happy to have an extended weekend. Happy to be getting together with family and friends. Happy to shoot off the fireworks!!! All of that is great, and should be enjoy. Did we forget the meaning behind Independence Day? Have we commercialized it so much just like Christmas?
All that being said, Thank A Veteran! Our forefathers were willing to lay their lives down for our independence, our FREEDOM. The freedom that we enjoy today is because of Veteran. Even the ability to complain about rising Gas Prices, and Blogging (that freedom of speech thing); yes, thank a veteran.
I guess that’s why I didn’t post this on July 4th. I didn’t want it’s meaning to me to be lost. So today I wanted to thank the Men, Women, and the families of those that are currently serving our great country to protect all of the things we hold true and dear. I wanted to thank the families of those that have given their lives. I’ve got a Son currently serving, and I want to thank him too!!! In general, I wanted to revisit Independence Day and simply Thank You All! Your dedication and sacrifices are appreciated!!!
Please enjoy the video!!!
